We bought the property in 2003 as a finca of 130,000 sq mtrs with two ruins. In 2004 we rebuilt what is now the house from one of the ruins, leaving the other (with existing plans drawn up for a 160 sq mtr house) for future development. Our home is set in an idyllic rural setting looking out over the mountains of The Sierra de las Nieves, surrounded by orange, lemon, olive and almond groves. It is in a totally unspoilt area, 10 mins from the traditional white washed villages of both Casarabonela and Alozaina and only 40 minutes from Malaga and the beach and the airport.
The main room of the house is a 90 sq mtr room incorporating the kitchen, sitting room and dining room – its 6mtr high ceiling and 3 mtr windows looking out over the garden and surrounding countryside create a real “wow” factor. There is a large woodburning stove here for the winter. There are 6 large double/twin bedrooms all with built in cupboards and ceiling fans. 2 of the bedrooms have ensuite shower/bathrooms and another has an ensuite shower room. There is an additional large family bathroom with shower. There is a separate sitting room/TV room which could very easily be used as a 7th bedroom. It is also possible to use one end of the house as a separate apartment as the 6th bedroom has its own sitting room/kitchen (again with woodburning stove) and its own vine covered terrace. This is great as a “Granny annexe”.
The main kitchen is fully fitted. There is a large oven with gas hob, an American fridge/freezer, and a dishwasher. There is a large utility room with washing machine and dryer. There is a second oven, gas hob, fridge and washing machine in the apartment kitchen. There is a separate loo off the utility room.
The property is about 360 sq mtrs with large covered terraces in addition. There are two built in BBQ’s, one next to the house and one next to the pool which also has an additional kitchen area and a large covered terrace good for outside eating. The pool is 10 mtrs x 6 mtrs and 2.2 mtrs deep. It is rectangular with wide steps at one end. There are large well placed rocks which are great diving boards!
The large garden is on two levels and is lawned with flower beds. There is an automatic irrigation system. There is an olive orchard behind the house, and numerous olive trees scattered around the finca. There are also fig, lemon, orange, avocado and pomegranate trees.
Two “casetas” provide storage (one houses a large diesel fired generator providing back up in the event of mains electric failure) and there is a boiler room housing a large hot water tank. There is oil fired central heating throughout the house (there is a 1000 ltr oil tank). There is a well which feeds the house and, in addition a 500,000 litre water deposit. Mains water is paid for and arriving at any point. There is a septic tank.
The whole house is built to a very high standard and is in very good condition.
RENTALS
2006 was our first year of letting the property and we let 20 weeks – this was predominantly done through internet sites. The rental rates varied from £900 per week in low season to £2000 per week in high season.
REASON FOR SELLING
The only reason we are considering selling is to release capital to pay for enormous UK school fees for our three children! We love the house and obviously, having created it ourselves from nothing, have a huge emotional attachment to it.
